Responsive Luminenscent
Textile Research

I experimented with a soft elastomeric composite material that lights up when mechanical force is applied to it. I created multiple prototypes using the glowing material to demonstrate how coated fibers in garments respond to movement and applied forces, like stretching, and to understand potential future applications or the fabric.

Created under the guidance of Morphing Matters Lab, funded through a Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship (SURF) grant. Special thanks to Dinesh Patel, Lea Albaugh, David Perry, Sophie Paul and Prof. Lining Yao.

Final Dance Demonstration

This video shows the fabric in action. The movement from the dancer generates the light on the garment.
